PEKKA SASSIColours -video installation 7.1.2017 – 29.1.2017
The Colours video installation in my exhibition is reflected on three walls and can be viewed both as a moving image and a painting. In my work, I explored what happens when the element of time is integrated into the examination of an abstract painting by cropping and synchronising images by means of moving image.
The design language of the images is minimalist/constructivist. Showing the images in succession creates a narrative, but not necessarily a story. The images are colour surfaces, where use of a single colour splits or frames another colour. At times, all three projections are just one bright colour, whereupon the image vanishes and the painting becomes a space. The viewer´s distance from the image sometimes seems to change when the hues fade or strengthen in relation to the previous image.
Projection technology has its own part to play in the appearance of the work. The audio background in the video installation consists of 2-3 live recordings that I have played in my studio on an electric guitar and by varying the effects pedal.
This work is electric.
