Artist Eila Maaret Forsström (born 1966) held her debut exhibition in 1996. Her previous exhibition in Finland was held at Galleria Sculptor, Helsinki in November 1998. The following January, she moved to artist residence Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris. She intended to work in Paris for two months, but a deeper interest arose in getting to know France and French culture. Her "trip" has lasted almost five years.

Some still remember her oil paintings from the late 1990s, where she portrayed realistic landscapes with a hint of surrealism, and streets after dark. "My new works mainly deal with human figures. They are not portraits in the traditional sense: the object of the painting is not a specific person but a kind of fleeting psychic state affecting distinct figures. What is new in my works is the material I use. I have started painting entirely on a metallic sheet base. I use zinc, aluminium, brass and copper as a base for my oil paintings."
