What happens to your sense of self when you lose a place you love? For me, this place is the small town in the mountains where my American father was born. It's not on the way anywhere. There is nothing to see there. All the young people have moved away, and once my last aunt and uncle are gone, I will no longer have any reason to go back or a place to stay.

My father ended up moving to Finland, so I grew up here. I began traveling to Berwick alone at a young age to strengthen my identity.The feeling of belonging became especially important after the sudden death of my father. The people I was closest to were old aunts and uncles. They had known my father since he was a child and loved telling stories about him and our family history. It made me feel close to my late daddy. The camera was always rolling.
